After getting over my sickness yesterday, we went to the fair. My understanding is that it’s part of a religious cycle in which a deity or avatar travels through different cities, and this time of the year is when he/she is in Varanasi. Here’s what the fair consisted of: very unsafe-looking amusement park rides, some amusement-park style games (without prizes though), many baked-good vendors (I think the food was special for the festival), ice-cream vendors, many people in the street, and people selling leafy greens for people to offer at the altar. All in all it was a pretty happening place, but it was definitely a little too busy for me.
