Animals in India

I thought that today would be a good day to comment on the wildlife here, as I both went to Betawar and had a serious monkey encounter this morning (meaning I saw so many monkeys….). So generally, the animals one can find easily on the street are cows (including water buffalo) and dogs (just as likely belonging to someone as not).
Other animals seen less frequently, but not out of the ordinary: dogs other than street dogs, monkeys (tan monkeys that are mean and gray monkeys that are nice; also kept as pets), birds, squirrel-type creatures, goats.
Animals seen even less: Cats (very rarely- I may have seen one cat while here)
Country animals: cows, goats, these wild deer that only exist in UP apparently.
Some interesting facts:
My conditioning against dogs is going very strangely. I really have to avoid the NIRMAN dogs because they are very jumpy and will get mud all over you, but street dogs don’t chase you even when you’re out running, but I definitely still think that they are about to chase me every time I go running. So I’m in a very strange predicament. Talk about things I’m not prepared for….
Cows- fat cows have owners. Skinny cows do not. There are also sometimes just herds of (dairy?) cows at BHU that I sometimes see while running.
Many people want to prevent birds from landing on their houses, so they employ the classic glass-shards-on-top-of-everything-strategy. Which tends to work, until the stupid NIRMAN dogs manage to fall on top of the glass structure that they aren’t supposed to be on top of and then they bleed all over the place, which is really disgusting, I would say.
